What is Nutritional Therapy

“The food you eat can either be the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” (Ann Wigmore)

The food you eat can either prevent disease or create disease. This is why it is so incredibly important for you to identify which foods can enable you to optimise your health. Every person is unique and what works for one person, doesn’t necessarily work for another. Whilst some principles of a diet/way of eating may work for you, there is definitely no ONE right diet for everyone.

The objective of Nutritional therapy is to use nutritional science to support individuals to promote health and to improve performance. Our objective is to identify potential nutritional imbalances and evaluate how these may be contributing to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. We use a range of tools to assess and identify nutritional imbalances. We also take into account the client’s lifestyle and emotional factors, which enables us to create an individualised protocol to support someone back towards maintaining health.

Nutritional therapy is NOT a replacement for medical advice and we always refer clients with ‘red flag’ symptoms to their doctor or medical specialist. In fact, it is our aim to work alongside medical professionals in order to deliver the best possible results for our clients.

Our ultimate focus is to use food as medicine to get you back to your best health.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am a fully qualified Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist. I obtained my qualification by studying with the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM) for 3 years. Shortly after completing this, I completed my Applied Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP) with the Institute of Functional Medicine. I am currently studying to become a Certified Functional Medicine practitioner. I am also a member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). Both these bodies require continuous professional development and I spend a great deal of time furthering my education. I have also done specific SIBO training with Dr. Alison Siebecker and became a Certified Gluten Practioner after completing training with Dr. Tom O’Bryan.

Before your initial consultation you will be asked to complete an in-depth health questionnaire covering your health history, your immediate family health history, your current symptoms, medication and much more. This along with a detailed food diary needs to be completed as accurately and honestly as possible at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. This will allow me time to prepare for your case so that we can use the initial consultation to get stuck into the detail. The initial consultation lasts approximately 90-minutes and will be used to discuss your health history and goals in more detail. We will also go through my initial recommendations and allow time to ensure that my proposed plan is both achievable and realistic for you. My ultimate aim is for you to succeed and achieve your health goals, so it is imperative that we create a protocol that is going to support you each step of the way. You will receive your written plan within five working days from your consultation.

At present, my aim is to provide you with the best package that is going to enable you to get back to feeling your best. Years in clinic has taught me that every person is unique and a one-sized approach does not fit all. This is why I offer a 30-minute free assessment call where we can discuss your current health in more detail and look at the best possible options that is going to support you in achieving your goals. I often suggest functional testing as part of a package, as I truly believe that this is the quickest and more accurate way for you to achieve your goals.

Everyone is unique and biochemically different, which means that everyone will respond differently to a particular Wellness Plan. There are no quick fixes when it comes to addressing things from the root up. There are many variables and it depends on a person’s condition and how long they have been dealing with symptoms. Some individuals may experience significant improvements in two-three months, whilst other more complex cases may only see improvements after six months or longer.

I frequently use supplements to support the work that I do with my clients as it helps to speed up the process and allows me to steer your body back into balance. These supplements are NOT INCLUDED in the consultation fee. I generally tailor this to your budget, which will be discussed in more detail during the initial consultation. Functional testing may or may not form a part of your initial package. Any testing suggested at a later date will be charged for separately.

If you can no longer attend your consultation, please let me know as soon as possible and we will arrange a suitable alternative date. If you wish to cancel your consultation for any reason, please give at least 48-hours notice, otherwise you will not be refunded.
