Hello everyone!
It’s Sunday afternoon, the house is quiet and I am finally managing to sit down and write to you all, something I have been meaning to do since qualifying late last year. The reality of setting up practice, having an influx of clients and doing a series of talks has kept me busy in the best possible way. I also enjoyed a fabulous trip to London for my graduation and was very honoured to receive an award from the College of Naturopathic Medicine for Clinical Aptitude in Nutrition .
What I love most about my job, since starting my practice in October last year, is the personal contact I have with my clients, whether in person or via Skype. My own journey battling Fibromyalgia, Adrenal Fatigue, Hashimoto’s, SIBO, Migraines, and more, has taught me just how challenging it can be to find the right support and to find a practitioner that understands the struggles you face on a daily basis. Having worked with various Nutritional Therapists around the world to support my own health goals I have learnt what does and doesn’t work and I feel very fortunate to be able to share this with my own clients today.
My own health problems started over eight years ago, when overnight, I went from a fully functioning individual holding up a job, writing a dissertation and being mum to an eight-month old baby and 2-year old toddler, to a helpless, vulnerable and very ill individual. When something this radical happens, we want answers, we need to understand the ins and outs and more than anything we NEED the right support. Very often these are the very things we don’t get and in fairness to conventional medicine, the reasons don’t always show up on standard blood results, ECG’s, scans, etc. The question is why? Why don’t they show up when you feel this ill, surely something has to reflect the way you feel?! The answer to this question is complex and the more I stumbled through the dark trying to unravel my own health problems, the more I realised just how complex, and equally clever the body is. Now, after years of unravelling and studying, I appreciate just how amazing our bodies are and what might not be fully visible in blood (yet), will definitely be visible in other places in the body, the skill is to know where to look and what to look for.
Naturopathic Nutritional Therapists are trained to use a very comprehensive assessment process, whilst looking at the body as a whole. Our aim is to support our clients in whatever health goals they may have, but ultimately, we always strive to find the root cause and guide our clients to address this underlying driver of their symptoms. I know from personal experience just how challenging and time-consuming this can be, but when it comes to investing in your health, it was never a question for me. I knew I wanted to get better and I knew that I would do whatever it took to get there. There is no doubt that the use of functional testing can speed things up, but ultimately it is the guidance of the practitioner that is going to support you through this process.
If you have any questions about your health or want some more information about my services, why not get in touch to arrange a 15 minute free phone call where we can discuss your health needs in a little more detail.
For now, I am going to spend some time with my family and work on this endless battle of improving my work-life-balance.
Wishing you all a very enjoyable Sunday.
